This collection of three paintings was created between October and December 2021. They were inspired by walks in rural Fife and reflect the diversity of the landscape in the the north of the county. Each of theses images is available as a limited edition Giclee print and as a greetings Card.

Winter river

The River Eden flows for approximately 30 miles from Burnside near Kinross through the Howe of Fife to its estuary at Guardbridge. The river and surrounding area is home to a variety of wildlife including otter, kingfisher dipper and heron. Roe deer can be seen on the nearby common and raptors and hawks can occasionally be spotted hunting in the area. This oil on canvas depicts the river just south of Cupar on a frosty October morning.

One of two paintings of the shoreline at Tentsmuir. The Tentsmuir National Nature Reserve takes in Morton Lochs, Tentsmuir Point and Tayport Heath and is home to many species of bird and mammal that take advantage of the varied habitats. This image was captured as the light was beginning to fade, casting a soft pink glow over the scene. The sea is calm and smooth, its glassy surface disturbed only by the waves gently breaking on the sand. The sea itself seems to stretch to infinity: a faint line of light creates the suggestion of a distant horizon.

Shoreline,Tentsmuir

Tentsmuir again but further from the sea this time. The patterns created by the grasses and shrubbery across the dunes is the dominant theme here and allows for experimentation with texture and a thicker application of pigment using a palette knife. As with the previous piece, this image was captured at dusk, creating a soft, atmospheric ambience. The sea in this image is a narrow strip of grey in the distance.
