An autumn break

1–2 minutes

I haven’t posted in a while but that doesn’t mean I have been idle. A trip to Loch Ewe in October provided enough material to keep me busy for the foreseeable future. This is easily my favourite part of Scotland, to which I returned after an absence of at least a decade.

I stayed in a cottage on the shores of the loch about 8 miles from Pool Ewe. It is difficult to describe the views which change constantly: dramatic skies; seas at times turbulent and at others calm and gentle: and ranges of mountains that appear in layer after layer, sometimes wreathed in cloud and at others shining bright in the sun. After such a long absence, I had expected that much would have changed, certainly there had been some:a few more holiday cottages and the closure of the village shop at Inverasdale to name two, but by and large it was reassuringly the same. There was still a sense of remoteness and being able to switch off from the 24/7 information overload that is everyday life. Long may that continue.

A trip to the north west of Scotland provides a rich source of inspiration.
