Sheep at Hill of Tarvit
I’m continuing to experiment with the use of acrylic paint over a layer of acrylic medium. I’ve found that the best results for me, in terms of texture, come about when I use a smooth cartridge paper .

I like painting sheep and this little group looked splendid in the evening sun one day in January this year. What motivated me to produce this piece was effect of the setting sun on the sheep in the foreground. They took on an orange tint and cast long shadows over the ground as the sun started to set. The paint is thinly applied over the landscape areas, creating texture and form by overlaying several layers mostly using a palette knife. I’ve used a brush for the sheep, applying the paint quickly and thickly to create the texture of their shaggy coats.
