As the summer starts to fade, sunflowers are a cheering sight. This year, the land behind my house has been given over to oats and a large strip around the perimeter sown with a variety of different seeds which have flowered in succession over the summer. Now the sunflowers have taken centre stage, just asking to be painted. Here are two attempts to capture them in all their glory.



I took a number of photos on a couple of walks along the river. My intention was to create an image that was a composite of these.
First attempt -sketch in chalk pastel on paper.
This piece was executed in acrylic on paper which has been coated with an acrylic medium.
