Crail Harbour

This painting has been gestating quietly for the best part of a year. I feel that now is the time to declare it finished. Crail harbour has been a subject for many artists in the past but my reasons for tackling this were personal. A dear family member and friend owned the small green boat seen here. Bernie died unexpectedly last year and this is something of a tribute in memory of him. He loved the sea and was keen to take us on an excursion but we never did manage to organise this. Rest in peace Bernie.

A second reason is also a nod to a family member. My uncle took up painting when he was in his seventies and one of his subjects was Crail harbour so it is something of a family tradition. The painting has been executed from almost the same vantage point. Not much has changed since it was painted -fewer cars, boats facing a different direction. I’ve always liked this painting and it hangs in my hall at home.
