View from a train

The first of a planned series of views from the Dundee to Edinburgh rail line and the subject of my last ‘Work in Progress’ post. This oil on canvas captures the Firth of Forth on a still, sunny morning. A mist lingers along the Lothian coastline behind the island of Inchkeith .

This piece took longer than I anticipated to finish as I struggled a bit with the foreground. The receding tide left pockets of water and areas of dark and light sand that I found difficult to capture to my liking. I’m reasonably pleased with how it has turned out though and a useful starting point for the rest of the series.

Progress from the original oil sketch to the finished painting. This piece will be available for sale in the next few weeks. All enquiries to me at artbysmart4@gmail.com.
