On the beach

I haven’t posted in a while but not been idle, despite a busy summer with family and visitors. Several visits to the beach along the Fife coast have provided inspiration. On the left is a view from Tentsmuir Nature Reserve looking toward St. Andrews. North Fife is an agricultural region and the horizon in this image is dominated by golden fields of grain. Although there was a handful of people on the beach that day, the only evidence of human life in this painting are footsteps in the sand leading away from the viewer into the sea.

On the right is a view from the Fife coastal path on the section between Elie and Anstruther. The sky comprises over half of the image, depicting the scurrying clouds. The ruin in the distance is Lady’s Tower on Sauchar Point, about which there is little information. It lies on the route of the coastal path.
