Ardgour Point

This is the finished piece which was the subject of my previous ‘work in progress’ post. It’s always tricky knowing when to put the paint brushes down and step away but I’m fairly happy that I’ve managed that here and not ’overworked’ the painting or been a slave to detail. This can be a temptation when working from a photograph leading to a loss of spontaneity and individual interpretation.

In this painting, I wanted to capture the effect of the sun, emerging after a shower of rain and reflecting on the clouds drifting through the valley. This creates a backdrop for the trees in the middle ground on the left of the piece, bringing them into sharp relief. As the cloud disperses toward the right they become less distinct, merging into mountains behind.
