Work in progress
What I should have been doing right about now is staging a small exhibition in my local library. I have been working on a series of watercolours of the local area: mostly of the grounds of the Astley Ainslie Hospital and Blackford Pond which offer an abundance of images for nature lovers. Fear not though: until exhibition spaces reopen, you can view these works on my gallery page.
Part of the Work in Progress series, the images below show how I executed my latest painting, another of those inspired by a pre-lockdown trip to Granton-on-Spey. Continue to scroll down to see the finished piece.
Findhorn Village sits on the shore of Findhorn Bay, an estuary of the Moray Firth. From Findhorn Beach further along the coast to the east, and from where this view was taken, there are stunning views over the Firth towards the Tarbat Peninsula. Further along the shore in the estuary, a colony of seals rests on the rocks, sounding for all the world like some strange celestial choir. Contrary to what you might think from these images, it was a pleasant day but rain was threatening from the north west which we managed, for the most part, to avoid.
The finished piece
Here is the finished painting. The image on the left is of the original watercolour sketch.
