Lockdown art

1–2 minutes

One of several paintings I’ve completed over the past 10 weeks and one of my favourites. This image was inspired by a visit to Findhorn beach just before lockdown; my first visit to that part of Scotland. We managed to avoid the rain although it could be clearly seen on the horizon to the north west.

I have started with a coloured ground and returned to a more textured application of the pigment. I was aiming to capture the threatening sky and how it reflected on the sea in the distance and the beach in the middle ground. I have used a limited pallette of naples yellow, payne’s grey with touches of yellow ochre and ivory black.

The gallery below shows progress from an initial sketch in watercolour to the finished piece.
